ResourceSpace achieves B Corp Certification

We are delighted to announce that Montala Limited (the company behind ResourceSpace) has earned certification as a B Corporation (or B Corp), as certified by B Lab - the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement.

This is something we've been working towards for a while, and we now join a community of over 5,000 businesses globally that have certified as B Corp, including Ben & Jerry's, The Guardian, innocent, Patagonia and The Body Shop.

But what is the B Corporation movement, and why does it matter?

What is B Corp Certification?

Companies that are Certified B Corporations® have been verified by B Lab to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business' operations, covering five key impact areas:

  1. Governance
  2. Workers
  3. Community
  4. Environment
  5. Customers

The 'B' in B Corp stands for 'Benefit for all', and this is the reason for their existence. B Lab UK (part of the B Global Network) wants to '[shift] our global economy from a system that profits few to one that benefits all.'

The B Global Network has a vision of an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economy, and B Lab UK is leading on economic systems change to support this collective mission.

Why did we want to become a B Corp?

At Montala we have always taken our responsibility to our employees, community and planet seriously.

We've been employee owned since 2020, while we partnered with Ecologi in 2021 to help us plant trees on behalf of each new customer that has a paid ResourceSpace plan. This partnership has ensured we're not only climate positive, but that we also make a genuine difference in tackling climate change.

For us, becoming a Certified B Corporation® isn't just about promoting what we'd already done, it was about driving further positive change for the organisation. The certification process is incredibly rigorous. The average score for ordinary businesses is just 51, so most fall well short of the 80 points required to achieve B Corp status.

We needed to provide evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. All of this together contributed to us smashing the 80 point target, hitting 105 points.

But it goes further than bold promises and previous actions. To become a B Corp, Montala had to legally imbed these commitments to purpose beyond profit in our company articles.

Why should our customers care?

Like us, we hope it's important to you that you work with companies and vendors which care about their impact on society and the world. However, there are also some very tangible advantages to becoming a B Corp that will also benefit our users.

Improved staff retention

B Corp's enjoy higher levels of employee retention thanks to a more engaged workforce. This means you'll be benefiting from a team of DAM experts that retain their brightest minds for longer, and work with people who know your Digital Asset Management (DAM) system inside and out.

If you care about your impact on the planet

More and more brands are thinking about their impact on the planet and society. If you're one of them, you should make sure your vendors and partners are B Corps.

ResourceSpace's B Corp certification is proof of our dedication to minimising our impact on the environment and making a positive change to society.

Increased innovation

Certified B Corporations® drive higher levels of innovation, with B Corp SMEs being over seven times more likely to apply for or receive R&D tax credits than non-B Corp SMEs.

What's more, 84% of B Corp SMEs claim they've introduced new or significantly improved goods or services in the last three years, compared to just 41% of all SMEs.

Chris Turner, Executive Director of B Lab UK, says "We are delighted to welcome Montala Limited to the B Corp community. This is a movement of companies who are committed to changing how business operates and believe business really can be a force for good. We know that Montala is going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward.

"We are pleased to have B Corps of all shapes and sizes as part of our community - from startups to multinationals and across many different industries. Business is a powerful force and B Corps demonstrate that you can do good in any sector. Welcoming Montala is an exciting moment because they have an opportunity to lead the way within the Digital Asset Management industry. We and the rest of the B Corp community are really pleased to support Montala in paving the way for a new way of doing things".
