ResourceSpace 7.5 - improved metadata handling & extended user logging

Proudly announcing ResourceSpace 7.5!

With this release we've started database restructuring work to greatly improve the storage and indexing of fixed metadata. The goal is to significantly reduce data duplication and therefore improve search performance. It's much easier to manage field options with a brand new management page for this that works for both category trees and other 'flat' fixed list types such as checkbox lists and dropdowns.

Previously, activity logging focussed mainly on resource actions such as downloads and edits. We've extended user logging to include most actions a user would perform now. The result is much more complete auditing of system activity.

We are continuing to improve the setup process for new installations. This release includes the the ability to change the logo from the System Configuration page, which was previously a more technical task. We'll be following this up in the next release with the ability to upload and manage slideshow images. All of this helps to customise new installations quickly from within the web browser.

This release includes the version control plugin, which is the second plugin to be released to the base code from our Enterprise programme. This adds the ability to restore files and metadata to earlier revisions meaning that your edit actions are never final and mistakes are easily corrected. Read more about version control in the Knowledge Base.

Our Enterprise programme subscribers fund the development of advanced features in exchange for early access to those features, ahead of inclusion in the ResourceSpace base code. I would like to publicly thank the subscribers on behalf of the ResourceSpace community. Those subscribers include Genus PLC, Islamic Relief, Weleda AG, United Bible Societies, Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), BAE Systems, Lysbordet.no, The Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad (SPANA), and Save the Children.
